I'm so confused! DANCE OR THEATRE?!?

Ok, so I am going to a school for performing arts next year....my sister goes for theatre already. I wanna go for theatre because I can see myself doing it in the future and I love acting however I love to dance too. The dance program is amazing and I love the school's dance shows (which are the dancers' shows they put together) and everytime I listen to music I can instantly think of a dance for it and I wanna put it on stage but then I don't know if that's what I wanna do for my career which is what these programs do. And my mom, and everyone else has said that I am an amazing dancer! I can't do both and I'm so confused! Please help! What do you think I should do?!

I'm so confused! DANCE OR THEATRE?!?concert venue

If you study dance first it will complement your theater talent later on.

I'm so confused! DANCE OR THEATRE?!?events opera theater

You obviosly have a natural talent for dancing so go down the theatre avenue. There is always scope for dance in theatre and you will get a much broader training. A dancers life can be short, an actors goes on til they die. Plus theatre will help you if you ever decide to do choreography, you will learn all about what looks right and works best on a stage.

Theatre all the way!
Follow your heart, young lady. Should you elect to 'do what others wish', in time you could find you made the wrong decision. Trust yourself, possibly for the first time in your life, you are being tested. Respond to your inner need.
well try dance first mabey for a year and if u like it and still want to do proforming arts also the do that part time
Place your feet in the path your heart walks and you will have "No Fear!" Always remember what is truly important in life and then share it so others can have the chance to grow.
First, congrats on the school! As to theatre or dance, follow your passion. You sound like you enjoy theatre, but have a true love for dance. The real choice is yours, but don't base you decisions on your friends or your sister. Best of Luck!
if you do what you love and love what you do you will be happy.

Do whateve make YOU the happiest and that YOU can see yourself doing all the time.

There's nothing on the schedule for that date, yet, but "Lord of the Dance" is onstage January 27th. After that, nothing until March 8th.

Legally Blonde: The Musical on MTV?

Ok, so, im majoring in musical theatre in high school (ya, we can take majors if we want to in my school), but unfortunately, we have NO good theatre (especially musical theatre) around there so I am desperate for something. I used to live in Conncecticut so I used to be able to see a lot more shows on and off Broadway, but not the case where I live now. Although I am seeing Hairspray at the local performing arts center in November, and The Drowsy Chaperone and Le Miz in December, I want to see something now. I didnt know this until like today, but they filmed Legally Blonde: The Musical on MTV and I wanna see it. I tryed looked at the schedule on the website (I NEVER watch MTV) and I could not find it, so does anyone who actually watches MTV know when its going to next be on. Or, if you filmed it, and you would send it so me, ill give you my address. Thanks

Can anyone give me a ballad from a broadway musical?

I am auditioning for a high school of the performing arts. If I get in, I will be transfering my sophmore year. The audition requires that I have one broadway song, which I already have prepared, and a ballad from a broadway play. I am having difficulty finding a ballad. My range is from alto to 2nd soprano. I also must have a monologue from a play. I am aware of many monologues from movies, television shows, and books, but am also have a bit of trouble with this. Please help, if you can. I am a female and a freshman in highschool.

Can anyone give me a ballad from a broadway musical?playhouse

I'm an alto (ish) also! ^.^ Here are a few of my favorites to sing... Some these aren't ballads but I've sung all these songs with much success, so this can give you an idea of my range so you can compare it to yours. I'll put stars (***) next to the ones I consider ballads.

1) ***"Your Daddy's Son"- Ragtime (This is God's gift to altos, if you can nail it and are a good belter, this would be amazing!)

2)(*** "Hold On") or "A Fine White Horse"- Secret Garden (Hold On, could be a bit of a challenge to add acting things to, but it's still pretty, and Fine White Horse, is just a fun jolly song)

3) "Roxy"- Chicago (this song isn't too difficult to sing range-wise and you could add some playful things to enhance it)

4) "Crime of the Century"- Ragtime (I ADORE this song, it's so cute and there is alot to work with)

5) ***"Every Tear a Mother Cries" - Honk (This song is very passionate and is sung by a soprano in the play but is written in an alto range, beware though some of the notes go pretty low)

6) "All the Jazz" - Chicago (need I say more?)

7) "Macavity: The Mystery Cat" - Cats (I'm auditioning for our school's production with this song next month, there is a lot to work with, it's very dynamic)

8) "Heavy" - Dream Girls (If you can sing with enough soul this song has the potential to be very impressive)

9) ***(this song is sort of a ballad, you can listen to it online)"He Wanted to Say" - Ragtime (I'm currently playing this role at my school and the character that sings this is a very powerful and influencial character, the song has so much meaning to it, this song go kind of low as well)

Can anyone give me a ballad from a broadway musical?plays opera theater

I would try On my Own, from Les Miserables. It's a commonly known song, but I've never heard anyone sing it at an audition. If sung correctly, it's beautiful.
For a Ballard from a Broadway show, try "Light My Candle" from Rent.

How do I get energy in a flat performance group?

If anyone could please give me some ideas to raise the energy level and to encourage the feeling of fun and having a good time for my performing arts group I would really appreciate it. It's not that they're having a bad time, but they're just showing up for rehearsals and singing the songs %26amp; dancing the routines. They're not having a blast, how do I change that? I can't change the songs or the dances b/c our performance is in one month. I just want to encourage everyone to have fun. At this point they know all the moves and lyrics/notes, how do I get them to let loose? I thought about taking time out of the next rehearsal to have a jam session, singing dancing in a circle, creating a club feel. Sorry I'm rambling but seriously any ideas would be awesome!!! Thanks so much!!!

Have some "performance rehearsals". Take them to some nursing homes or other venues just to bring the adrenaline up. It won't hurt to get some audience experience either.

How do I get energy in a flat performance group?ms stress opera theater

I would disagree with a small part of your premise. If you still have a month until the show, there is plenty of time for the group to insert some new wrinkles that will really make it their own. This should take you to a new level of "buy-in" and that ownership should bring out some real passion.
try to raise your own energy level... be relentlessly positive, let it spill over the edges. Encourage the ones who get into it, and make sure the "not having fun ones" don't get any feedback. Keep the tunes a pumping and don't let them stand around for more than a second -- keep it moving. Good luck!!
Try inviting them to another performance, maybe you'll ignite the passion that caused them to be involved in the first place. or try and get them out of their comfort zones so they'll be forced to try newthings. they may not like it at first but, whoever likes things that aren't good for them?
If they're at a point where they know the routine, do some theater exercises where the students are asked to release emotion into their performances. Or have them watch some passionate performances (opera, musical theater, clips of professional singers/dancers).

Want to do something?

Before I start I have an admin job. I use to be a singer in a rock band and I left because I was starting to find it boring the band were not very good at discusing Ideas. Ive always wanted to do something in performing arts at least as a hobby but im 21 and I have no hobbies. I see my friends allot and things but I just wish I did something as a hobby. Id really like to sing in a band or act but I dont know where to start. Im not an amazing singer but I can hold a note lol I think I sound just as good as some pop singers (not all no im not christina agulaira). But I am a good actor I always got good roles in shows at school and college. Where do I start? Any ideas. Id love to be like Avril lavigne or work on corrie - those are just dreams though as I have a mortgage and im realistic. Any ideas please.

Want to do something?performing arts

Most cities/towns have at least one community theatre group in the area, most of them doing musicals over the summer, some of them doing a combination of musicals and straight plays year round. You could try a simple Yahoo search, or look in the performing arts section of your local paper and get in touch with the companies to find out the audition process.

If it's a band you're looking to be in, check notice boards at coffee shops and bars; there are often flyers for people looking to form bands, or you can post one yourself!

If you're just looking to pursue acting and/or singing as a hobby, the possibilities are endless. As far as a career goes, it can often be much more difficult, especially if you have no industry connections. I don't know much about the music industry, but if you'd like to better your chances at an acting career, improvisation classes are a must, and acting training is highly recommended. You'll also most likely need to join a union at some point (AEA for theatre or SAG for film/TV) which can take a while.

Either way, people find both music and theatre to be very rewarding hobbies, even if they can't actually make a living of it. Best of luck to you in your endeavors!

Want to do something?binoculars opera theater

If you're in London, take a trip to the Southbank and have a look at what's happening there. It's an artsy environment and you might get some leads from there.
go to your community theater
Well good on you for deciding you want to do something. You should check out what Amateur Musical Socities there are in your area. This is how I started out when I was 10 years old - played Brigitta in The Sound of Music. It was great experience and you make wonderful friends.

Go along to any of these groups and you'll have a great time. They have them in towns across many countries, performing plays, musicals, dance recitals - you name it.

The important thing is that you start somewhere, and these societies are as good as anything.
see your local job centre or look in local papers for drama theatres
Well you should definitely check out local theater groups.

As for your dreams... DREAM BIG!!!!!!!! You HAVE a day job, so you ARE being realistic... chase those dreams!
Community theater.
Not sure what's around for you at night, but perhaps a bar with an amatuer night, if you've got the knack to sing? There are normally local rags with bands advertising for singers, and you can be up front about your other commitments. Maybe you'll find a pack of folks like yourself who are just looking to scratch that itch to perform.

As for acting, that's a bit rougher in that you usually don't get as much input on your expected schedule. But what if you attended a drama class, instead of performing? Sure it might cost you some money, but at least you'll know the schedule is more fixed, and you'll meet other people who may have the same interests.

Best of luck!
u can start by engaging them in bringing up their own ideas too.some with ideas may feel it's stupid.but by the time you all bring your ideas together, you'll definitely come up with something nice.left hand washes the right hand, right hand washes the left hand, both hands becomes clean.
You're kidding right? First, it's "a" "lot" Two words. You need to stop living in some little fantasy world of your own creation. Obviously, if you used to be some sort of singer in a rock band (they are a dime a dozen) and you never made the big time or progressed beyond that in the business, then your talent was indeed limited and so were your connections. If you are NOT an amazing singer (by your own admission) with loads of the right connections in the business, then frankly, I would work to pay that mortgage and move toward a more realistic goal. You sound like you cannot decide if acting is for you, or singing, or what, and frankly, I think you are looking for us to tell you what you already know. It's time to grow up, get real, and set your sights on something truly attainable. This is not to say you cannot join your local community theater to satisfy your performing desire, but come on, you are never going to make it in the world of rock and roll, or in Hollywood. I think you already know that fact.

How come Filipinos are creative, but don't make the use of it in entertainment?

How come people who are in the entertainment could just sit down and think about making a story instead of getting the stuff out of foreign movies and shows?

I have seen all over the net, many filipinos are talented. But out of all things, why can't they come up with a story? What ever happen to "imagination"? why can't they use there creativity to these type of things?

People can paint, dance (not from tv but in performing arts) and sorts of things.

How come Filipinos are creative, but don't make the use of it in entertainment?symphony

Filipinos can come up with very creative stories but unfortunately, producers don't want to risk their money in new things that they still have to introduce to the market, they rather stick to formula movies which are sure to draw big bucks out of the pockets of the Filipino masa.

Most scripts with fresh theme are trashed everyday, sad to say. This forces the writer to come up with formula scripts to make a living... and the domino effect of mediocrity goes on and on.

Filipinos can come up with creative stories easily. Just look at Sana Maulit Muli.. LOL.
Well, I guess it's just hard to please everybody.
Too much red tape. You must know somebody to get in the business.
once upon a time there was a girl named Maria Elena Corazon Talumpati...she lived in a banana grove. she was a beautiful village dweller, many men loved her...but MECT had a secret, she was a MANANANGAL.

she would carry her lantern at night to the deepest part of the banana grove and turn into her cursed form. she would live this way until she could find a man who loved her in both forms...in came Jose Luis Valenciano, the son of the village chief.

one night he happened to be at the banana grove working the late shift. he felt a great gust of wind and looked up. in came the dreaded mananangal of folklore swooping in. Jose hid himself and watched in horror as the monster reattached itself to its detached lower body...

he tried to hold his chest...his heart was pounding so hard he feared the mananangal might hear it and come rip it out of him. just then Jose was blinded by an intense light and was forced to close his eyes...when it subsided he opened them again...and to his sheer shock.......to be continued...buy my book and read the rest :)
They do make use of their talents.... or maybe you're just watching GMA7... Joke..

Look at the telenovelas in ABS-CBN. You'll see that we really do make use of our talents...
you see filipinos are really talented but filipino audiences are more influenced with other countries culture, it is like colonial mentality, so tv shows try to appeal with the masses, and what do the masses like, dramas like 鈥睲eteor Garden鈥?, 鈥睩ull house 鈥?etc., but there are few exceptions that hit big in showbiz, those shows are what they call experimental. Anyway business will always be business!!
Yes, Filipinos are creative, they just don't have enough money to use it. Why?,,,....aren't you FILIPINO??? I think not. B/c you're insulting Pinoys....or if you are Pinoy....you're not proud.....

Why is there so much inequity at work?

Here's something I've wondered for years.

Why is it that those who are paid the most also get the largest amount of perks and ease? Things like a reserved parking space, an office with a window, being exempt from helping clean the employee break room, etc.

My former boss had an 800 sq. ft. office [and needed very little of it], yet I had to contend with a cramped 8 x 10 foot cubicle. That's just an example from my "day job" universe. In my performing arts work, the leads are paid more and have better dressing rooms, while supporting roles and chorus are paid less and have to cram into communal dressing rooms. [When I do leads, I always bring snacks and other fun things to share.]

So, why do you think this inequity exists? Perhaps it's just my humanitarian socialism showing, but it seems patently obvious to me that those that are being paid less should be compensated with some perks, while those being paid more should have to do more work and not be treated like royalty.

Why is there so much inequity at work?performing show

I think its just one of the perks of being human. Look at a pack of wolves, the strongest eat first and get to carry on their genes....where as in the human world though you may be very bright you might not always end up with the window view at work...why? because the guy who has it doesnt believe in playing fair....he fights dirty to get to where he wants to be...so he isnt necasarly the strongest.....ok so that didnt really answery anything...but its how i view things i gues...bah! lol ok someone else answer cause now i want to know

Broadway or TV?

I auditioned today with Ryan Daly from LA and if I get a call back then this could mean I could start doing TV shows and films. But what I REALLY want to do is musicals and my dream is to be on Broadway. I'm part of the Missoula Children's Theatre Performing Arts Camp and am one of the top 200 actors and singers in th US, Mexico, and Canada (non professionals). If I do get the call back what should I choose? I want to become famous and my family needs the money but I like doing musicals and my goal is to be on Broadway. If I choose to go with the call back then I can kiss my dream of being on Broadway good bye.

Broadway or TV?events

it is not true that you will be kissing your broadway dream goodbye. Infact, many of our, now, broadway stars are or were film actors. They were discovered b/c they were on film and showed how they could act. I say go for the film carreer and get into Broadway later on.

Broadway or TV?home theatre opera theater

Go to Los Angeles and pursue both careers. Los Angeles, believe it or not has theater as well.

Or, go to London. There they have a booming television business and probably the best theater district in the world. Plenty of opportunities to try a hand at both things.

Television acting pays better. Because even after a days work, you still get residual checks.
Doing TV shows and films doesn't mean you can't do Broadway. Broadway today relies heavily on TV and film stars, for one thing. For another, it's become quite gimmicky, picking up young talent from American Idol and the recent audition show to cast Grease. You can do musicals in LA and you never know, one of the connections you make out there in a musical can lead to Broadway, perhaps even the show you're doing itself. Also, you'll have an agent out in LA - tell him you're interested in Broadway, and if the right part comes along, he'll arrange an audition for you. Often casting people look for new talent in other cities.
Broadway, Broadway, Broadway!

How to perform 540 kick?

I tried all my best to do 540 tornado, but i don't know why i keep landing on my nonkicking leg all the time. Does any one who is martial art expert can show me how to perform 540 kick properly please????

How to perform 540 kick?ballet

Try this tutorial at trickstutorials.com: http://www.trickstutorials.com/index.php...

It took me a while to get it. I think one of the most important things is getting enough momentum to swing around hard/fast. Assuming you have an excellent tornado kick, all you need is to generate enough torque for the kick to travel through, so you can land on the same leg.

Look up some tutorials/videos on youtube. You will see that some people twist in the opposite direction first, then spin in the direction of the kick. I think this method is best for people who have been doing the kick for a while, but you should try whatever works for you.

Another way to do it is to do a roundhouse kick very fast in the direction of your 540, carrying that momentum to swing around and do the 540.

Hope this helps.

Why would you want to is my question ?
I don't know what martial art you're in or what you're doing it for, but I'm in karate and we do it for the kata/form Unsu. I can do it, but not every time. The way you do it is to kick and keep that foot in front, the other just kinda goes straight up towards your body, then straightwards as you're going to land. It's hard to explain.

http://youtube.com/watch?v=GWbwllxtzjY
its not hard at all.. just twist your body to help generate torque right before you jump... can you do 360's? tilt your body more upwards like you are trying to kick the sky almost. and then its easier to land on the kicking leg...

Arts professionals, is David Leonhardt right?

A recent article by Mr. Leonhardt, in the New York Times asks if rising costs of elaborate stage effects, fuel and inflation in general are killing the touring Broadway musical. The tried and true titles of the past no longer seem to draw, and more and more presenters are seeing houses of only 50 - 60% capacity. Titles such as Hairspray, The Producers, etc... fail to perform financially on the road, as well as they did in New York. Is the touring/ road show system broken? If so, what does the future hold?

Arts professionals, is David Leonhardt right?headache

Clearly, the touring musical has lost much of its appeal, and the cost of putting them on is really staggering. Something will have to change.

Part of this, I think, is that people want to have "an authentic experience," and to authentically experience a Broadway musical you more or less have to be on Broadway. One possible response is to create shows as touring shows that change with the territory, constantly shifting and incorporating local elements. Musicals are, like it or not, competing with films, and one advantage that theater has over film is that no play is a finished text; it can be reinterpreted and modified endlessly as it is performed. I would like to see traveling theater projects that offer something more like a unique experience.

How do you show that one play is better than another?

Well, my High School has a Theatre Arts class in which we have to figure out what play to perform this year. It has wound down to Arsenic and Old Lace or 10 Little Indians.

First Question...What would you rather see?

Second Question...What kind of things could I include in a Persuasive Powerpoint to make the class side with me?

How do you show that one play is better than another?plays

Try research on box office receipts.

Which did better on stage, film and in other plays?

Which costs more for costumes and scenery?

Run it by prospective clients. Which would people who potentially buy tickets want to see? Take a poll of moms %26amp; dads.

(I love the movie Arsenic %26amp; Old lace with Cary Grant... you don't get much better than that for comedy. But I don't recall seeing 10 lLittle Indians. So for me you would have to entice me with a tidbit about 10 LI to make me want to see it.)

Play to your strengths. What kind of actors do you have? Can they do a comedy well?

Good luck!

Well, despite what Amy is implying, that part of Brooklyn is perfectly safe! I was just at the Brooklyn Academy of Music (BAM) on Saturday, and there are tons of people around when the shows let out, not to mention restaurants, gyms, etc. Not scary.

All that being said, I think that you ought to stay in Midtown Manhattan, since most of the places you'll be going to are nearer to there, and being disabled makes that more complicated.

BAM is located right near a major, major subway station (Atlantic Avenue Station, part of which is called Pacific Street Station - they are really two stations that are fully connected to each other.) There are plenty of elevators in that station, though, like all big stations, it's chaotic and a bit confusing. Do call the MTA in advance (or perhaps the NYC help line - 311) to make sure all the elevators are working - sometimes they go out!
I would stay in Manhattan
